The music world is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Chad Gilbert, the founding guitarist and longtime member of New Found Glory, who has died at just 45 years old. 💔🎸

Gilbert helped form New Found Glory in Florida in 1997 and went on to become one of the defining musicians of the pop-punk era. As the band’s lead guitarist, backing vocalist and songwriter, he played a major role in the sound that connected with a generation of fans around the world.

New Found Glory broke through in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with songs such as “My Friends Over You,” “Hit or Miss” and “All Downhill From Here” becoming lasting favorites among pop-punk fans. Gilbert remained an important part of the band for nearly three decades and appeared on more than a dozen albums.

His influence also extended beyond New Found Glory. Gilbert worked as a producer and musician with other bands, including A Day to Remember and H2O, and was involved in several other musical projects throughout his career.

In recent years, Gilbert had been facing a serious battle with cancer. Despite undergoing major treatments and brain surgery earlier in 2026, he continued pursuing music. Just months before his death, he returned to the stage in Nashville, performing with New Found Glory in an emotional appearance that meant a great deal to him and his family.

His death was announced by his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, and New Found Glory. The statement remembered Gilbert not only as a legendary musician, but also as a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife Lisa, their daughter Lily, his mother Jackie and his brother Brian.

For countless fans, Chad Gilbert’s music was part of their youth, their memories and some of the most important years of their lives. His guitar work, songwriting and energy helped shape a sound that continues to influence musicians and fans today.
