Pope Leo XIV’s Past Posts About Trump Resurface

When Pope Leo XIV was elected in 2025, attention quickly turned to his social-media history — and some old posts and reposts involving Donald Trump and JD Vance soon went viral.

Before becoming pope, then-Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost appeared to share content criticizing aspects of the Trump administration’s immigration policies. One resurfaced post challenged Vance’s views on immigration and Christianity, while other posts addressed issues including migrants and the treatment of immigrants.

The posts sparked debate among Trump supporters, who questioned whether the newly elected American pope would have a difficult relationship with the president.

That question became even more relevant in 2026.

Trump and Pope Leo have since clashed publicly over issues including the war in Iran and U.S. foreign policy. In April, Trump called Leo “weak” on crime and “terrible” on foreign policy, while Leo responded that he had “no fear of the Trump administration” and would continue speaking out in favor of peace.

So while the claim that “the new Pope is NOT a fan of Donald Trump” is an oversimplification, there is genuine evidence of past social-media activity critical of Trump-related policies — followed by a very public disagreement between the two men.
