With Heavy Hearts, We Say Goodbye To A Beloved Singer Who Left Her Mark On Hollywood’s Golden Age

Peggy King, the beloved American singer and actress who became a familiar face during television’s golden age, has died at the age of 96. Her passing on October 25, 2026, marks the end of a remarkable career that brought music, charm, and unforgettable performances to generations of viewers.

Born on February 16, 1930, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Peggy discovered her love for singing at an early age. She gradually built a career in music before making her way into television and Hollywood, where her talent quickly caught the attention of audiences.

She became widely recognized through her appearances on The George Gobel Show between 1954 and 1957. Host George Gobel affectionately nicknamed her “Pretty Perky Peggy King,” a name that stayed with her throughout her career. Her success also led to appearances on popular programs such as The Jack Benny Program, The Perry Como Show, and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
Peggy also made her mark on the big screen. She appeared in the classic musical drama The Bad and the Beautiful and the comedy Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy. In 1957, she played a stewardess in Zero Hour!, a film that later inspired the famous comedy Airplane!.

Her musical achievements were equally impressive. She recorded albums for major record labels, performed with renowned musicians, and received an Emmy nomination in 1955. In 1960, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognizing her contributions to television.

Although Peggy stepped away from regular show business to focus on her family, her love for music never disappeared. She returned to performing later in life, delighting audiences once again with her voice and stage presence. Her final album, Songs à la King, was released in 2016.

Sadly, Peggy King passed away at a care facility in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, after battling Alzheimer’s disease. She is survived by her daughter, Suzy Rudofker, and leaves behind a legacy that spans nearly seven decades of entertainment.

Today, fans remember Peggy not only for her talent but also for the special place she held in an era when television and music brought families together. Her performances may belong to another generation, but the memories she created will continue to live on.

Rest in peace, Peggy King. Your voice and legacy will never be forgotten.
