Lionel Richie is stepping away from his touring schedule after undergoing a medical procedure related to an irregular heart rhythm.

The 77-year-old music legend recently received treatment for atrial fibrillation, commonly known as AFib. His representative said the procedure went as planned and that Richie is doing well afterward. The singer is expected to take some time to recover before returning to the stage.

Richie has been performing across the United States with Earth, Wind & Fire as part of the “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour. His latest health issue comes after other interruptions to the tour earlier this year.

In June, Richie stopped an opening-night performance after becoming dizzy, and two shows were subsequently postponed. He also spent time in a hospital in August as a precaution, according to reporting at the time.

AFib is a condition in which the heart beats irregularly. Treatment can vary depending on the individual, and medical procedures are among the approaches doctors may use to manage the condition.

Several upcoming performances have been affected by Richie’s recovery, including scheduled appearances in San Francisco, Columbus and Chicago. He also has Las Vegas performances planned later in the year.

For now, Richie’s representatives say the singer is doing well and plans to return to performing after taking the necessary time away from the stage.
