New allegations have emerged in the investigation into the so-called Ohio “House of Horrors” case, as a reporter claims the family made a series of unusual purchases before 16 children were rescued from the property.

Sixteen children were found living in what authorities described as horrific conditions at a home in Hamden, Ohio, after police executed a search warrant connected to an unrelated public indecency investigation involving Gary Siders Jr. The discovery led to Elizabeth Siders, 33, her husband Gary Siders Jr., 36, his parents Gary Siders Sr., 73, and Christina Siders, 67, each being charged with multiple counts of child endangerment. All have pleaded not guilty.

Speaking on the Criminally Obsessed podcast, Daily Mail reporter Mary O’Connor shared additional claims about the family’s history, including allegations relating to a previous home in Cheshire, Ohio.

According to O’Connor, former neighbours who had entered the property claimed the floors had become so saturated with urine that the home’s foundations had to be replaced after the family moved out. She also alleged that padlocks had been installed on doors throughout the house, although these claims have not been independently verified by investigators.

One of the most disturbing allegations centred on the family’s shopping habits. O’Connor claimed neighbours had repeatedly seen the parents buying large bottles of cooking oil, suggesting they may have been using it to increase the children’s calorie intake. Authorities have not confirmed this claim, and it has not formed part of the criminal charges.

Additional records have also shed light on the children’s education. According to reports, six of the children, aged between seven and 13, were repeatedly absent from Adairville Elementary School during 2021 and 2022, with the prolonged absences reportedly resulting in legal action against their parents before the family later left the area.

Authorities have since revealed more about the conditions inside the Vinton County home. Prosecutor Jillian Wilson described what investigators found as “beyond comprehension,” while Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain said the children had extremely limited communication skills, with some reportedly unable to communicate at all.

Officials have also confirmed that none of the 16 children were enrolled in school when they were rescued.

The case has shocked residents of Hamden, a village of fewer than 1,000 people. Several neighbours have said they had no idea so many children were living at the property, with some claiming they rarely, if ever, saw children outside the home.

Meanwhile, the legal proceedings continue. Both Gary Siders Jr. and his father, Gary Siders Sr., are undergoing mental competency evaluations to determine whether they are fit to stand trial. Gary Jr. also faces separate public indecency charges unrelated to the child endangerment case.

A judge has since imposed a broad gag order, restricting access to court filings and evidence while the case moves through the legal system. As a result, investigators have released few additional details publicly, and many questions surrounding the children’s lives before they were rescued remain unanswered.
