Former New York City Mayor and longtime Donald Trump ally Rudy Giuliani has been taken to hospital in critical condition.
According to a social media post by his spokesperson, Ted Goodman, yesterday (Sunday, May 3) the 81-year-old is currently in “stable but critical condition”.
Goodman did not provide further details – at the time of writing, the cause of Giuliani’s hospitalization remains unclear. The disbarred lawyer was involved in a car accident late last year, but the two events do not appear to be connected.
President Donald Trump, for whom Giuliani has continually campaigned for and staunchly defended, wrote on Truth Social to state his belief that Giuliani was the “Best Mayor in the History of New York City.”
In somewhat predictable fashion, Trump also used his friend’s hospitalization to take a swing at the Democrats, bizarrely implying they were to blame.
“Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition,” Trump wrote.
“What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!”
Giuliani was a close adviser of Trump’s legal team during the latter’s first stint as president.
The 81-year-old repeatedly and doggedly pushed the notion that the 2020 election had been stolen by Joe Biden, speaking at the “Stop the Steal” rally prior to the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
Afterwards, Giuliani was disbarred by courts in New York and Washington D.C. over the unproven claims, while he was also sued for defamation by two Georgia poll workers. He reportedly reached a settlement with them only last year.
