Trump slammed for mocking Rob Reiner and wife after apparent homicide, blames ”TDS”

Mocking someone who has just died is never classy.

Doing it as the sitting President of the United States? That’s something else.

Now, Donald Trump’s shocking words about Rob Reiner are spreading like wildfire.

A vocal critic of Donald Trump
Academy Award-nominated director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles, home on Sunday afternoon. Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating an apparent homicide.

It has now been reported that 78-year-old Rob Reiner’s son, Nick, was taken into police custody yesterday and is currently being held on a $4 million bond, according to jail records.

While his passion for films was profound, Rob Reiner was also engaged in politics. Per the LA Times, he was seen as a “political force” and a “Democratic Party activist who went beyond the typical role of celebrities who host glitzy fundraisers.”

He was very much involved in, especially, the legalization of gay marriage and early childhood education. Reiner had a very different approach to politics than most celebrities.

“Here’s this unique human being who really did make the leap between entertainment and politics,” Ace Smith, a Democratic strategist to former Vice President Kamala Harris, said. “And he really spent the time to understand policy, really, in its true depth, and to make a huge impact in California.”

Reiner, 78 at the time of his death, was a vocal critic of Donald Trump. He also supported Biden in the 2020 election.

Back in 2017, during an appearance at the Dubai International Film Festival, Rob Reiner told Variety that he thought Donald Trump was “mentally unfit” to be president.

“Donald Trump is the single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States. He is mentally unfit. Not only does he not understand how government works, he has no interest in trying to find out how it works,” Reiner said when asked to compare Trump with President Lyndon B. Johnson.

“Look, he’s old!”
Last year, Reiner and his wife, Michele, produced a documentary titled God and Country about the rise of Christian nationalism in America. While doing press for the documentary, Reiner told The Guardian that Donald Trump, who often promotes Christian values, is the least Christian guy you could meet.

“I think he can probably spell the word ‘bible’,” Reiner said. “I don’t think he’s ever read it and I don’t think he has any idea what’s in it. But they excuse all that by saying God works in mysterious ways, and that he sent us this flawed vessel by which we can achieve the goals that we want to achieve.”

Speaking with The Guardian in 2024, when it at the time looked as if Biden would be challenging Trump in the 2024 Presidential Election, he backed the Democratic candidate despite many criticizing him for being too old.

In Reiner’s view, it was better to have an old guy in the Oval Office than a “criminal,” meaning Trump.

“Look, he’s old!” Reiner told the Guardian.”But you have one guy who stumbles around, whatever. And another guy who’s a criminal, basically lies every minute of his life, has been indicted 91 times!”

Trump’s answer
And apparently, Reiner’s criticism didn’t go unnoticed.

Today, President Donald Trump issued a fiery political statement about the deaths of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, claiming their passing was linked to “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump,” the president added.

Some have reacted to the president’s tribute with outrage. One shocked X user wrote: “This is disgusting and shameful. A new low for Trump. Attacking Rob Reiner after his murder.”

Commentator Brian Krassenstein called the statement “the most disgusting Post Donald Trump has ever made.” Meanwhile, Democratic strategist Max Burns described the tribute as a “monstrosity” and added: “I don’t want to hear another sanctimonious word from the Republicans who accused Democrats of not showing enough sadness when Charlie Kirk died.”
