Texas crash kills father and young children, leaving grieving mother

A devastating car crash in Texas has left a woman grieving the loss of her entire immediate family after her husband and two young children were killed in a head-on collision.

On May 17 around 12:30 p.m., 41-year-old Tommy Moorehead III was driving with his four-year-old son, Tommy Jr., and six-year-old daughter, Lynnlee, through southern Grayson County, about an hour north of Dallas, when tragedy struck.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, another pickup truck attempted to overtake a large vehicle in a no-passing zone while driving uphill. The oncoming vehicle, a Dodge Ram 3500, collided head-on with Moorehead’s Chevrolet Silverado, which then caught fire.

All three members of the Moorehead family died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, 63-year-old Rocky Patterson, survived the crash and has since been arrested. He faces manslaughter charges in connection with the fatal incident, a second-degree felony. His bond has been set at $3 million.

The 74-year-old driver of the large truck that was being passed also sustained injuries but survived.

In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Brooke Mustard Moorehead, who lost her husband and both children in the crash.

“In a single instant, Brooke lost everything,” the fundraiser reads. “Tommy was a devoted husband and father, a kind soul who worked hard and loved his family with his whole heart. Lynnlee was full of life, joy, and curiosity. Little Tommy Jr. was just beginning his journey in the world, always smiling and full of love.”

Brooke, a longtime and beloved employee at a local restaurant, is described as loyal, hardworking, and compassionate. “She has always cared for those around her with love, respect, and grace,” the post continues. “Now, she is facing the unimaginable, and she needs all of us to help her through this most painful time.”

Organized by Carmen Hall, the fundraiser aims to raise $150,000 to help with funeral costs and other unforeseen expenses following the tragedy. At the time of writing, more than 60% of the goal had already been met within 10 days.
