💔 Philadelphia Police Officer Shane Seiber, 40, has died after being shot while responding to a call in West Philadelphia, leaving behind a wife and two young children.
The heartbreaking incident happened early Saturday morning, October 10, 2026, when officers were dispatched to a home following a report of a man with a gun.
According to authorities, officers came under heavy gunfire as they approached the property. Officer Seiber was shot three times and was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. His wife and family were reportedly by his side before he passed away.
Seiber had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 10 years. Beyond his uniform, he was a husband and father to a 7-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter — two young children who now face an unimaginable loss. 💔
Another officer, a 33-year-old father of five, was shot 12 times during the same incident. He was hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition, although officials cautioned that his recovery remained uncertain.
Authorities identified 35-year-old Eric Lewis as the suspect. Investigators said the gunman allegedly continued firing at responding officers after the initial shooting. A SWAT team eventually located the suspect hiding in a tree, and he was taken into custody.
Prosecutors have filed multiple charges against Lewis, including murder and attempted murder. He has been ordered held without bail as the legal proceedings continue.
Philadelphia officials have expressed their condolences to Seiber’s family and fellow officers. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in his memory.
A call for service ended in tragedy, leaving a family grieving a husband and father who will never return home. His sacrifice and the pain his loved ones are facing have touched people throughout the community. 🕊️🙏
May Officer Shane Seiber rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, and everyone who loved him. 💔
