A new national poll is putting fresh attention on President Donald Trump’s standing with voters as the 2026 midterm elections approach.

The CNN poll, conducted by SSRS, found that 33% of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job, while 67% disapprove. CNN reported that the 33% approval figure is the lowest recorded in its polling across Trump’s two presidencies.

The survey also found concerns surrounding the economy. Trump’s approval rating on the economy stood at 27%, while his rating on inflation was even lower at 20%. These figures come as economic issues remain an important concern for voters heading into the midterms.

The congressional ballot numbers are also drawing attention. Among registered voters, 49% said they would support the Democratic candidate in their district, compared with 41% who preferred the Republican candidate — an eight-point difference.

The poll provides a snapshot of the national political environment at this moment. It does not determine what will happen on Election Day, and national congressional polling does not directly translate into the outcome of individual House or Senate races.

With the midterms approaching, the numbers are likely to remain closely watched as both parties campaign on the economy, inflation, foreign policy and other major issues.
