TRUMP JUST ISSUED A MAJOR TRADE WARNING

President Donald Trump is putting new pressure on the Federal Reserve to lower U.S. interest rates.

In a statement Friday, Trump said the United States could stop trading with countries where it runs a trade deficit if the Fed does not cut rates.

Trump argued that high interest rates put the U.S. at an unfair disadvantage and said America should have one of the lowest interest rates in the world.

The warning comes after the latest U.S. jobs report showed stronger-than-expected job growth in August, adding another layer to the debate over what the Federal Reserve should do next.

For now, no new trade cutoff has been announced. Trump’s statement is a warning about what he says he could do if rates are not lowered.

The decision could have major consequences for U.S. trade and the global economy.
