A street named Trump Avenue in Ottawa, Canada, could soon have a different name after city council voted unanimously to begin the process of changing it.

The residential street, located in Ottawa’s Central Park neighbourhood, has carried the Trump name for about 25 years. The area was originally developed with a New York-themed collection of street names.

Several possible replacements have been suggested, including Obama Avenue, Canada Avenue, Ontario Avenue, Beaver Avenue and Canada Goose Avenue.

One of the more unusual suggestions is “Taco Avenue.” The name is a reference to the political nickname “TACO,” short for “Trump Always Chickens Out,” which became associated with criticism of Donald Trump’s tariff threats and policy reversals.

The proposal comes during a period of heightened tensions between Canada and the United States. Some Ottawa councillors have argued that continuing to honor Trump with a street name is no longer appropriate.

However, the street will not immediately be renamed. The council’s vote was a first step, and the change would still require support from residents and further public consultation.

For now, Trump Avenue remains Trump Avenue — but its future name is becoming a surprisingly big topic in Ottawa.
