White spots on the skin are often harmless but can sometimes signal a nutritional deficiency affecting pigment production.

Vitamins and minerals play an important role in maintaining an even skin tone.

A lack of vitamin B12 may slow normal cell growth and melanin production, potentially leading to lighter patches.

People following vegetarian or vegan diets or those with absorption issues are at greater risk.

Vitamin D also supports skin health, while zinc helps repair skin tissue, and copper is essential for producing melanin.

Eating a balanced diet that includes leafy greens, legumes, nuts, seeds, fortified cereals, eggs, dairy products, and fish can help maintain healthy pigmentation.

However, vitamin deficiencies are not the only cause of white spots. Fungal infections, eczema, and post-inflammatory skin changes can produce similar symptoms.

If the discoloration spreads, persists, or worsens, it is important to see a dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
