Melania Trump slammed for insensitive update during Iran conflict

The documentary landed on Prime Video on 9 March after Jeff Bezos’ Amazon MGM studios paid $40 million for the film
Melania Trump has sparked a heated discussion online after sharing a life update during the conflict in Iran.

On 10 March, the United States First Lady took to her official X account to share with her 3.9 million followers that her recently-released documentary was the number one movie on Prime Video globally.

Now, the docu-film, which hit cinemas earlier this year (30 January), follows Melania in the 20 days leading up to her husband, US President Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration last January.

The documentary ‘offers unprecedented access to the 20 days leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration through the eyes of the First Lady herself’.

Its description states that it invites audiences to step inside Melania’s world as ‘she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and moves her family back to the nation’s capital’.

The film features exclusive footage capturing critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments.

It landed on Prime on 9 March after Jeff Bezos’ Amazon MGM studios paid $40 million for the film.

Melania announced the news about her film doing the numbers on the streaming giant with a text post that stated ‘#1 MOVIE PRIME WORLDWIDE’ with an image of the Melania Prime doc underneath reading ‘Top 10 in the US’.

While many MAGA heads rushed in to praise Melania for the achievement, a number of critics took issue with the post, with several considering it insensitive, per the Mirror, amid the intensifying conflict in Iran.

The US and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran late last month (28 February), which set off retaliatory strikes across the region.

“Total vanity project. What a joke,” slammed one X user while another hit out: “Seriously? This is what you post? Something about yourself? With everything happening now and the chaos caused by your dearly beloved?”

Melania has got an 11 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer but has interestingly received a near-perfect 98 percent on its Popcornmeter, a stark divide between the two rating systems.

For reference, the Tomatometer represents the percentage of positive reviews from professional critics, while the Popcornmeter shows the percentage of positive ratings from audience members, primarily verified users.

In the meantime, over on IMDb, Melania has received a 1.4/10.

At the time of writing, the First Lady’s documentary film is ‘#7 in the UK’.
