James Ransone’s wife shares heartbreaking tribute after his death by suicide at 46

Actor James Ransone took his own life at the age of 46 on December 19. Now, his wife, Jamie McPhee, has taken to Instagram to pen an emotional tribute to her late husband.

On Friday, actor James Ransone, known for starring in the hit series The Wire, the film It, among others, died at age 46. He took his own life, his family announced. The family has set up a GoFundMe to support James’ wife, Jamie, and their two children during this difficult time.

“James, who his friends called PJ, was funny, magnetic, brilliant, and endlessly alive. Above all else, he was an extraordinary father,” the GoFundMe page read.

“His wife, Jamie, known by her friends as Skipper, and their children, Jack and Violet, were the center of his world. They loved him infinitely, and he loved them just as fiercely in return. Their bond was deep, joyful, and unmistakable to anyone who witnessed it.”

“This fund has been created to support Jamie and the children as they navigate life after an unimaginable loss. Its purpose is simple: to give Jamie the space to focus fully on Jack and Violet, to care for them, protect their sense of security, and ensure they have a bright future—even without James’s light present in their everyday lives.”

Los Angeles Police officers responded to a call at a residence, where it was confirmed that James Ransone had taken his life by hanging. They determined no foul play was involved.

Now, the widow Jamie McPhee has penned a heartbreaking tribute to her late husband. On Instagram, Jamie shared a picture of the two, with James holding a hand on her pregnant stomach.

“I told you I have loved you 1000 times before and I know I will love you again. You told me – I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me – and you were so right. Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts – you, Jack and Violet. We are forever,” she wrote.

James Ransone was born on June 2, 1979, in Baltimore, Maryland. As mentioned, he starred in the hit show The Wire and the 2017 film It: Chapter II. Other credits include the 2015 film Tangerine. He also appeared in numerous television shows through the years, including Hawaii Five-0 and Law & Order.
