George Clooney calls out Trump on 60 Minutes, but the president doesn’t hold back

George Clooney had a lot to say about the US president on 60 Minutes, and as expected, Trump didn’t hold back, dubbing the Ocean’s Eleven actor “a second rate movie ‘star’ and failed politician pundit.”

During his appearance on the TV program that aired Sunday, Clooney warned Americans about the government’s increasing encroachment on journalism, an opinion Trump didn’t seem to be happy about.

Clooney has been promoting his newest project, the Broadway production of Good Night and Good Luck, a movie he originally wrote and directed in 2005.

It follows the life of journalist Edward R. Murrow, who is targeted by Sen. Joseph McCarthy during the anti-communist Red Scare of the 1950s.

“When the other three estates fail, when the judiciary and the executive and the legislative branches fail us, the fourth estate has to succeed,” Clooney said, referring to the press as to the fourth estate.

“ABC has just settled a lawsuit with the Trump administration. And CBS News is in the process… We’re seeing this idea of using government to scare or fine or use corporations to make journalists smaller.

“Governments don’t like the freedom of the press. They never have. And that goes for whether you are a conservative or a liberal or whatever side you’re on,” the actor added. “They don’t like the press.”

Trump took to Truth Social to criticize Clooney, accusing him of supporting Biden and then “dumping him like a dog,” referring to Clooney’s op-ed published in the New York Times in which he asked from Biden to step down.

“Later, I assume under orders from the Obama camp, pushed all out for ‘Kamala,’ only to soon realize that this was not going to work out too well,” Trump continued.
