Sheryl Crow sells Tesla in protest of Elon Musk, donates proceeds to NPR

Sheryl Crow, the acclaimed country music singer, has taken a bold stand against Elon Musk by selling her Tesla and donating the proceeds to National Public Radio (NPR).

Concerns about Musk’s role
Sheryl Crow, the 63-year-old Missouri native, has never been shy about her political views, and she’s certainly not one to align with the Republican Party or Donald Trump’s supporters.

Recently, Crow has joined the growing debate around Elon Musk’s influence on American politics, voicing her disappointment and concern over his actions, especially in relation to his ties with Trump and his role in the public discourse.

Sheryl Crow took to Instagram to announce that she had sold her black Tesla in protest against Elon Musk’s ties to President Donald Trump’s administration.

In her post, she shared a video of herself bidding farewell to the car, saying, ”My parents always said… you are who you hang out with. There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla.”

This gesture is a response to Musk’s involvement in President Donald Trump’s administration, where he serves as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Crow expressed her concerns about Musk’s role and his opposition to NPR, emphasizing the importance of supporting truthful journalism. She stated:

”Money donated to @npr, which is under threat by President Musk, in hopes that the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth.”

Before Donald Trump’s inauguration, some members of the media had speculated that Elon Musk could act as the “shadow” president, suggesting that Musk’s influence over the tech industry, combined with his connections to the Trump administration, might allow him to play a behind-the-scenes role in shaping policies and decisions.

This theory was fueled by Musk’s close relationship with Trump, as well as his involvement in various governmental advisory councils early in the Trump administration.

Called her ‘woke’
Sheryl Crow didn’t seem too upset as she bid farewell to her Tesla, even flashing a smile while a tow truck took it away.

Her decision sparked mixed reactions from her followers, with some criticizing her for being “elite” and accusing her of endorsing “wasteful government spending.”

Her critics called her ”woke,” with some even saying, ”Just because you had a hit 30 years ago doesn’t mean anyone cares about your opinion, or even remembers who you are.”

While Crow didn’t disclose the exact amount she earned from selling the Tesla— which starts at $42,000 for the most affordable model – she made it clear that all the proceeds would go to NPR.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has accused NPR of biased news coverage, a claim that was echoed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). Greene announced plans to hold a hearing to investigate whether NPR and PBS have overlooked stories critical of the Biden administration.

“Defund NPR. It should survive on its own,” Musk wrote on X last week.

On Election Day, Sheryl Crow shared that she voted for Kamala Harris, explaining that she chose the candidate who embodied “empathy, compassion, a heart for community, and for those underserved,” rather than “hate, division, bigotry, or racism.”

Back in 2017, early in Donald Trump’s first term, Sheryl Crow expressed her hope that he would be impeached, calling the first 144 days of his presidency “nothing but chaos.”

“It actually has kept me up at night,” she confessed. “It’s infiltrated our daily lives in a way that is, for me, not healthy… I’m concerned about our democracy, what we count on as Americans. We don’t know what the truth is.”
