Fox Sports Stands by Michael Strahan Amid National Anthem Controversy, No Punishment Coming

Fox Sports has made it clear that no punishment or disciplinary action will be taken against Michael Strahan following the controversy over his behavior during the national anthem on Sunday. The incident occurred during the NFL on FOX pregame show at the U.S. Naval Base in San Diego for Veterans Day Weekend. As the anthem played, Strahan, a Hall of Fame defensive end known for his entire NFL career with the New York Giants, did not place his hand over his heart, unlike the rest of the NFL on FOX crew, including Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Johnson, and Jay Glazer.

This moment quickly went viral, sparking backlash on social media, with some fans criticizing Strahan and even calling for his firing. However, Fox Sports is choosing to move on from the controversy, describing it as just an “internet controversy.” A source told reporters that Strahan would not face any punishment, fine, or reprimand from the network, adding that Fox Sports sees the situation as a minor issue that is being blown out of proportion online.

Strahan’s close friend and NFL on FOX colleague, Jay Glazer, strongly defended him in response to the backlash. Glazer pointed out that Strahan has a deep personal connection to the military, growing up on an Army base and frequently discussing the impact of his father, Major Gene Strahan, on his life. Glazer also highlighted Strahan’s charitable work, including donating thousands of dollars worth of clothes to homeless veterans and providing job interview attire for those in need. Glazer urged critics to consider Strahan’s long history of supporting veterans before jumping to conclusions, suggesting that Strahan was not protesting the anthem, but simply caught up in the beauty of the moment.

Despite the uproar, Strahan has not yet addressed the incident publicly. However, Glazer’s statement and Fox Sports’ decision to take no further action suggest that the network views the situation as a minor misunderstanding. Fox Sports has made it clear they are moving forward, choosing not to escalate the issue any further.
