‘Top Gun’ actor James Handy murdered by girlfriend’s son as chilling 911 call revealed

Veteran actor James Handy has died at the age of 81 following a tragic incident outside his Los Angeles home. Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with his death: his girlfriend’s son.

Handy was a familiar face to audiences for decades, appearing in dozens of films and television shows throughout a career that spanned nearly 50 years. He was perhaps best known for roles in Jumanji, Top Gun: Maverick, Arachnophobia, and Logan.

According to TMZ, police responded to a 911 call at Handy’s residence in the neighborhood of Tarzana, Los Angeles. Officers discovered James Handy stabbed and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he later died. He was stabbed multiple times in the chest.

A 44-year-old man, identified as Michael Gledhill, was taken into custody at the scene. Gledhill is also believed to be James Handy’s girlfriend’s son.

Authorities allege that Gledhill, the son of Handy’s girlfriend, had been living at the home with the couple. Police say the suspect made statements claiming responsibility for the attack before his arrest.

Gledhill was arrested for murder, and his bail is currently set at $2,000,000. The haunting 911 call has now been revealed. A caller, believed to have been Gledhill, called 911, stating, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin,” per the NY Post.

The police later shared a statement saying, “The suspect flagged down nearby responding officers, telling them he was the one they were looking for. The suspect resides at the location with his mother, who is the victim’s girlfriend. “

At this time, investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive, and the case remains under investigation. Officials have described the incident as isolated and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Born on March 19, 1945, in New York City, Handy had an incredible acting career with more than 150 credits to his name. He appeared in several popular television series, including NYPD Blue, Alias, Criminal Minds, and The West Wing, earning a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most reliable character actors.

Handy starred in the 1995 cult classic Jumanji, appearing alongside Robin Williams. Recently, he also appeared in Top Gun: Maverick, playing a bartender named Jimmy.
