The peace talks between the U.S and Iran weren’t a success. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has vowed to open the Strait of Hormuz after last week closing it, threatening to attack ships that try to pass. Now, Iran has issued a new dire threat towards Trump, saying they are prepared to launch attacks on U.S ships.
The war in Iran has had dire consequences on the world economy. Oil prices skyrocketed, and as peace talks began, people saw a brighter future in the region. However, peace talks between the U.S and Iran didn’t end well, and the war has continued.
Just days ago, Trump, who lashed out against Iran for closing the Strait of Hormuz, where 20% of the world’s oil is transported through, decided to block the passage himself.
Meanwhile, per The Washington Post, the Pentagon is sending more than 10,000 extra troops to the Middle East. An estimated 6,000 troops are on board the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier along with its escorting warships. Around 4,200 others are set to arrive by the end of the month.
The ship George H.W. Bush is set to join the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Gerald Ford, which are already in the Middle East.
Donald Trump has given the world different messages on what he really wants to do with the Strait of Hormuz. On April 12, the U.S. president stated that the U.S would begin its blockade at the important passage. However, just days later, he said it won’t happen.
U.S war in Iran
Tracking to Truth Social, Trump claimed that China supports his administration’s efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and that they have agreed not to supply weapons to Iran. However, AP reports that Chinese officials have repeatedly pushed back on claims that the country is providing military support to Iran.
What will happen moving forward is unclear, but the fact that the U.S. still has a large number of military personnel in the region, with more on the way, is undeniable. Now, Iran has sent a new threat toward Donald Trump, and it’s one that the President of the United States most likely should listen to.
Per the NY Post, on Iranian State TV, Mohsen Rezaee, the ex-commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, mocked Donald Trump, claiming the president wants to be the “police” of the Strait of Hormuz. He continued by threatening that Iran’s missiles could take out American ships.
Iran official issues terrifying Trump remark and threatens to “take thousands of hostages”
“Is this really your job? Is this the job of a powerful army like the US?” Rezaee, dressed in a military uniform, said. “These ships of yours will be sunk by our first missiles and have created a great danger for the US military. They can definitely be exposed to our missiles and we can destroy them.”
Mohsen Rezaee is today a senior adviser to the supreme leader. He continued by challenging Donald Trump’s claims that Iran’s navy has been “completely obliterated,” asking Trump through the state television, “Why does the United States not dare to cross the Strait of Hormuz?”
Moreover, Rezaee threatened that Iran would “take thousands of hostages and for each hostage we would get a billion dollars.”
