Two-day-old boy killed after getting circumcised without anesthetic, doctor charged

A newborn baby boy has died in a heartbreaking case that is shocking people around the world. The baby was only two days old. Now, a doctor is facing serious criminal charges.

Reports say the tragedy happened after the baby was circumcised at a private clinic in California. But something went very wrong.

Authorities say the doctor, Hong-An Jan, may have given the baby the wrong drug during the procedure. Instead of a local anesthetic, the baby was allegedly given a strong narcotic.

Soon after the circumcision, the baby’s parents saw that something was wrong. Their son became very weak and did not respond.

The worried parents took him back to the clinic. But they say the doctor told them everything was normal.

“Jan only ‘looked’ at [Charles] and reassured [his parents] that these symptoms were ‘normal’ post-circumcision reactions and advised them to return home,” a civil suit from the parents against Jan and South Coast Global Medical Center in Santa Ana claims, per NY Post. “He did not take any blood samples or order any laboratory studies, even though he observed the symptoms … symptomatic of opiate substances.”

In the lawsuit, it says the baby showed “profound lethargy” and could not feed properly. The parents contacted the doctor because they were worried.

But they were told the symptoms were normal and were sent home.

Tragically, the next day, the baby stopped breathing. He was rushed to the hospital — but it was too late. Doctors could not save him.

A later report said the cause of death was bronchopneumonia linked to drug intoxication. Investigators believe this may have been prevented. One detective described the situation as “negligent and preventable.”

The doctor has now been charged with involuntary manslaughter. He has denied the accusations and pleaded not guilty.

At the same time, the baby’s parents have filed a lawsuit. They accuse the doctor of medical malpractice and wrongful death. The doctor’s medical license has also been suspended while the case continues.

Rest in peace, sweet little angel.
