President Donald Trump has said that the United States will keep its military operation against Iran going until its goals are reached, even though some American soldiers have already died.
At least three US service members have been confirmed killed during military action connected to the conflict with Iran, and five others were seriously hurt, the US military said.
On Monday, it was announced that a fourth US service member died from injuries sustained in an Iranian attack.
In a video message posted on his social media platform, recorded at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump said the deaths were a sacrifice for the country. He also warned that more American troops could die before the operation ends.
“As one nation, we grieve for the true American patriots who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, even as we continue the righteous mission for which they gave their lives,” Trump said. “We pray for the full recovery of the wounded and send our immense love and eternal gratitude to the families of the fallen. And sadly, there will likely be more before it ends. That’s the way it is. Likely be more.”
How long Iran operation will continue, according to President Donald Trump
Donald Trump continued, “We’ll do everything possible where that won’t be the case, but America will avenge their deaths and deliver the most punishing blow to the terrorists who have waged war against, basically, civilization.”
“Combat operations continue at this time in full force, and they will continue until all of our objectives are achieved. It’s sadly likely there will be more before it ends,” Trump concluded, describing the fight as part of a mission to protect the United States and its allies.
The conflict began after a joint U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran’s military infrastructure, which the White House called Operation Epic Fury. Trump and military officials claim the strikes were meant to stop what they describe as threats from Iran’s missile systems, leadership, and nuclear ambitions.
Iran has responded by firing missiles and drones at US bases and other countries in the region. It has increased tensions in the Middle East. The situation remains dangerous, and both sides have signaled that the fighting could last for weeks.
