Rob Reiner in heated argument at Xmas party one day before his murder

Rob Reiner and his son Nick got into an argument on Saturday night at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas Party, one loud enough for plenty of other people to hear, according to TMZ.

The publication cite Reiner family sources as having confirmed the verbal altercation, which occurred less than 24 hours before the deaths of Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.

We reported the shock news yesterday after Hollywood filmmaker Rob, 78, and his wife, 68, were found dead at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles with wounds consistent with a knife.

According to The Mirror, authorities described the scene as a “horror double murder”. Reportedly, Reiner and his wife were discovered by their daughter, Romy.

At a news conference late Sunday, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton shared limited details, saying the investigation was still in its early stages. Detectives were in the process of obtaining a search warrant before conducting a “thorough” examination of the property.

“At this time, the Los Angeles Police Department is not seeking anyone as a suspect or as a person of interest … and we will not be doing that until we conduct our investigation and move forward,” Hamilton said.

New information released today revealed that the Reiners’ 32-year-old son Nick had been apprehended by authorities near the campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He was arrested on suspicion of murder around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Nick was identified as a suspect and taken into police custody mere hours after the bodies of Rob and Michele were discovered.

He is set to appear in court today, December 16, 2025, according to reports.

TMZ claim that Rob and Nick were involved in a heated argument this past Saturday at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party, and that Rob and Michele promptly left said party following the disagreement.

“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” one source shared.

TMZ also say that Michele had recently expressed to friends that she and her husband didn’t know where to turn regarding their son’s mental illness and alleged substance abuse issues.

Rob Reiner and Michele married in 1989 and shared three children together; Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob was previously married to Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981, with whom he shared a daughter, Tracy. The actor-come-director later adopted Tracy during his marriage to Michele.

Nick had previously spoken out about his addiction and homelessness. He told the media in 2016 how he had been in and out of rehab since he was 15 years old. As his addiction got worse, he spent more and more time away from his family, living on the streets in various states.

Rest in peace, Rob and Michele.
