National Guard Sarah Beckstrom, 20, has died after the injuries she sustained when a lone gunman shot her and 24-year-old National Guard Andrew Wolfe, 24, in Washington, D.C. Just hours later, after announcing the tragic death, Trump met the media where he bragged about winning another golf club championship.

On Thursday night, as part of his Thanksgiving call to U.S. troops, President Donald Trump made the announcement of her passing. He described Beckstrom as a “highly respected, young, magnificent person” who was “savagely attacked.”

“She’s just passed away. She’s no longer with us. She’s looking down at us right now. Her parents are with her. It’s just happened,” Trump said.

Wolfe is still being treated at the hospital. The suspect was also wounded and taken to the hospital, and remained heavily guarded, authorities stated.

President Donald Trump left Washington to celebrate Thanksgiving in Florida. Before making the call to U.S troops, Trump spent time on the golf course.

Hours after announcing the death of Sarah Beckstrom, and shortly after the call with service members, the president bragged about his golf skills, claiming to have won his 38th club championship.

Earlier this year, he said he had won 36. Trump declared himself to be a scratch golfer and claimed he beat a 27-year-old competitor.

“I’ve won 38 of them, legitimately. Every one legitimately,” he said. “It has to be legitimate, because you have a lot of people following you during club championships.”

The president continued, “I’ve got to be right around scratch or better… For those that don’t know, in the finals of the club championship last year, with all I was going through, and with no practice, so, I’m a good golfer. You know, I would have to say that. I want to be honest. I have to be honest.”

That Donald Trump is winning legitimately has been heavily debated. In fact, there has even been a book about him and his golf by author Rick Reilly, titled “Commander in Cheat.” Obviously, it implies that Donald Trump is, in fact, cheating on the golf course – and many have said the same thing.

“Will do anything to cheat”
Last year, Rick Reilly appeared on Deadline White House on MSNBC, breaking down how Donald Trump cheats on the golf course.

“I’ve always said golf is like bicycle shorts. It reveals a lot about a guy,” Reilly said. “And what it reveals about this guy is that he cannot lose. He has to win and he will do anything to cheat.”

Reilly added, “And I know because I played golf with him and he took seven mulligans. He took a ‘give me chip-in. I’ve never even heard of a ‘give me chip-in.”

Speaking with People Magazine in 2024, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung denied Reilly’s claim that Donald was cheating on the golf course.

“Rick fantasizes about having a golf game as good as President Trump. But instead of putting in the hard work to improve his s—ty game, Rick allows his severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome to completely take over his life. He should seek urgent medical care before it’s too late.”

The author stated that Trump has “never won a championship at a course he doesn’t own and operate,” despite the president claiming to have won 23.

“I don’t know anything about politics, but I know about golf,” Rielly concluded. “I’ve covered it for about 45 years. It’s not a sport where you can cheat. It’s just not in the game.”

Trump was nicknamed “Pele” at the golf course because of ‘cheating’
At the golf club Winged Foot, where Trump is a member, the caddies, those who help carry the players’ clubs, have gotten so used to seeing him kick his ball back onto the fairway that they even came up with a nickname for him. It was “Pele,” after the legendary Brazilian football player, whom Donald Trump actually said was his favourite player.

“I played with him once,” Bryan Marsal, longtime Winged Foot member and chair of the 2020 Men’s U.S. Open, told Golf.com.

“It was a Saturday morning game. We go to the first tee and he couldn’t have been nicer. But then he said, ‘You see those two guys? They cheat. See me? I cheat. And I expect you to cheat because we’re going to beat those two guys today.’”
