Erika Kirk causes new stir after hugging Jason Aldean

Just months after the tragic assassination of her husband, Erika Kirk has been navigating life as the new CEO of Turning Point USA.

But what should have been a moment of recognition turned into a viral spectacle during the Fox Nation Patriot Awards on November 6, 2025.

In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder, Erika has found herself constantly in the spotlight. She has now stepped into the role of CEO at Turning Point USA, taking the reins of the organization her late husband co-founded.

And with that, every step she takes is being closely scrutinized — a fact Erika experienced firsthand when she showed up at the Fox Nation Patriot Awards.

Erika was presented with the inaugural Charlie Kirk Legacy Award by country superstar Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany Kerr Aldean.

Following the presentation, Erika shared long, tight hugs with both Jason and Brittany — gestures meant to show gratitude, but one in particular caught the internet’s attention.

Video footage shows Erika embracing Jason while Brittany looks on, her expression seemingly less than thrilled. Social media immediately erupted: some critics called Erika “too touchy-feely,” while others rushed to defend her, noting that she is still grieving the violent loss of her husband.

“She just lost her husband in the worst possible way there is. Just give her grace and let her mourn,” wrote one supporter. Another added, “She’s trying not to cry. People are always reaching.”

Lip reader revealed the words
This wasn’t Erika’s first viral hug.

Just weeks earlier, at a University of Mississippi event marking her appointment as TPUSA CEO, she shared an emotional embrace with Vice President JD Vance. Experts later described that moment as “super-intimate,” but rooted in grief rather than scandal.

At that event, Erika recounted feeling a profound sense of clarity after her husband’s death: ”I could just hear Charlie in my heart. I could just hear him say, ‘Go reclaim that territory, babe. Go. The battle’s already won. God’s love conquers.’”

Her interaction with Vance drew intense attention online, with critics nitpicking hand placement and body language.

”I have to admit that Erika’s hand on JD’s head was too much. It was a very intimate move that is meant for people in love. I hope someone told her not to do that anymore,” one viewer wrote at the time.

A professional lip reader later clarified that the exchange was a quiet moment of support. According to Nicola Hickling, Erika whispered to her assistant before taking the stage:

“I can’t do this, I don’t want to do it. Give me a second.”

During the hug, JD reportedly reassured her: ”I’m proud of you.” To which Erika replied, ”It’s not gonna bring him back.”

Hugging the Aldeans
When video of Erika hugging Jason Aldean went viral, reactions split instantly. While many focused on her lengthy embrace with the country star, the footage actually showed her hugging his wife even longer.

According to The Independent, Erika hugged Brittany for roughly 10 seconds before turning to embrace Jason for about 8 seconds.

One user joked, ”lol she’s intentionally touching Brittany’s head so she can say – ‘see I do it to women too.’ Still weird 😂.”

Some viewers even criticized the embrace:

“I have never hugged any of my mates’ partners like this. This is truly wicked,” wrote one.

“Nahhh… I don’t hug any of my BFFs’ husband like that. It was too intimate for me,” added another.

Others called out overreactions and offered a more empathetic perspective:

Erika Kirk is a hugger, it’s not always something else. If you’ve ever known a hugger, they genuinely hug people differently. I’m tired of the hate on this woman and everything she does being scrutinized.”

“Y’all are doing too much. Brittany is clearly showing sadness on her face for Erika, not all women are insecure,” another commenter wrote.

Heartbreaking memory from the hospital
Erika’s emotional moments come amid her very public mourning and her efforts to carry on Charlie Kirk’s legacy.

She shared a heartbreaking memory during an interview with Jesse Watters. Erika remembered that everyone at the hospital appeared deeply shaken by the horrific shooting, and a police officer told her to wait until her husband’s body had been moved to the morgue before she could see him.

”He was very sweet, but what do you say to someone whose husband just was assassinated so publicly? He said, ‘I will never tell you that you cannot see your husband… but in my professional opinion, I think you should wait to see him… Because I don’t think you want to see him like this.”

Her response to the officer?

”With all due respect, sir… I want to see what they did to my husband, and I want to give him a kiss, because I didn’t get to give him a kiss this morning.”

The trial for Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, is ongoing, with prosecutors planning to seek the death penalty if convicted. He is set to appear in court in person on January 16.
