The murder of Charlie Kirk shook the entire world. Among many left heartbroken was actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who broke down in tears when speaking about the horrific incident. But while many had empathy with her, others were furious over some of the things she said. Now, Jamie Lee Curtis has broken her silence over the backlash.
Just days after Charlie Kirk passed away, Jamie Lee Curtis was one of many who spoke out on her feelings about the horrific murder.
Appearing on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, the actress said that while she “disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say,” she also believed Kirk was “a man of faith.”
“I’m going to bring something up with you just because it’s front of mind,” Curtis said. “I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say, but I believe he was a man of faith.”
Jamie Lee Curtis’ voice changed in emotion before continuing: “I hope in that moment when he died that he felt connected to his faith. Even though I find his ideas were abhorrent to me, I still believe he’s a father and a husband and a man of faith, and I hope whatever connection to God means that he felt it.”
Through tears, Jamie Lee Curtis spoke of 9/11 and the videos of Kirk getting shot, both of which have been published on social media.

“Yesterday [on 9/11], we watched again these images of those buildings coming down. … Today, we as a society are bombarded with imagery. So we don’t know what the longitudinal effects of seeing those towers come down over and over and over and over again, or watching his execution over and over and over again,” she said, before returning to the videos of Kirk’s death.
“We don’t know enough psychologically about what that does. What does that do? That kind of — I don’t ever want to see this footage of this man being shot.”
Many praised Jamie Lee Curtis for her words on the murder of Charlie Kirk, foremost because she showed empathy toward a person with greatly different political views.
However, others were furious with the actress for appearing to excuse the conservative influencer’s controversial messages. One of those includes the rejection of transgender people, which hits close to home for Curtis, who has a 29-year-old transgender daughter.

Now, Jamie Lee Curtis has decided to speak out amid the backlash. In an interview with Variety, she stated that it was a mistranslation of what she said.
“An excerpt of it mistranslated what I was saying as I wished him well, like I was talking about him in a very positive way, which I wasn’t. I was simply talking about his faith in God,” Curtis explained.
“So it was a mistranslation, which is a pun, but not,” she continued. “In the binary world today, you cannot hold two ideas at the same time: I cannot be Jewish and totally believe in Israel’s right to exist and at the same time reject the destruction of Gaza. You can’t say that, because you get vilified for having a mind that says, ‘I can hold both those thoughts. I can be contradictory in that way.’”
