Donald Trump calls for investigation over “sinister events” at the UN

While serious matters were discussed when Donald Trump spoke to the General Assembly at the UN earlier this week, it was something else that stole the headlines. Donald and Melania Trump got ‘stuck’ as the escalator stopped working the moment they stepped onto it. But while some took it lightly, Trump has now called the hiccup a “disgrace,” demanding an investigation..

When Donald Trump spoke at the UN headquarters in New York City, his teleprompter stopped working. But by the end of the day, the teleprompter wasn’t the only malfunction that crossed Trump’s path.

The president was joined by Melania Trump at the UN, but as they were heading up an escalator in the building, it suddenly stopped. Both Donald and Melania looked over their shoulders to ask what had happened, and afterward, the White House was unhappy.

Early reports claimed the White House called for an investigation into whether the escalator was stopped on purpose to humiliate him. Moreover, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that there would be “accountability” if it were found to have been intentional.

At the same time, the UN stated that the malfunction was caused by a safety mechanism being inadvertently activated.

Donald Trump calls for investigation over escalator incident
Now, Donald Trump has had his say, and it’s not a joyful reaction. Writing on Truth Social on Wednesday, he claimed there was a “triple sabotage” of his speech at the General Assembly.

He now demands an investigation into the mishaps involving the escalator, teleprompter, and sound system. Meanwhile, the UN has partially blamed the White House for the problems that occurred.

“A REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday — Not one, not two, but three very sinister events!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves … No wonder the United Nations hasn’t been able to do the job that they were put in existence to do.”

The escalator malfunction has even gotten its own name: “Escalatorgate.” In videos from the mishap, Trump and Melania are seen walking up the stairs instead while holding onto the handrail. As he began speaking in the General Assembly shortly after, he seemed to laugh the technical issues off.

“All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that on the way up stopped right in the middle,” Trump said. “And then a teleprompter that didn’t work.”
