Alleged killer of Charlie Kirk is not cooperating, Utah Governor says

On Friday, authorities announced they had 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, the man suspected of shooting Charlie Kirk, in custody. The investigation into the cold-blooded killing is ongoing, but on Sunday, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox revealed that Robinson is not cooperating.

The manhunt for the killer of Charlie Kirk, who was shot and later died after appearing at an event at Utah Valley University last Wednesday, had been ongoing for 33 hours when authorities scheduled a news conference.

“We got him,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said. “A family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident.”

“Investigators interviewed a family member of Robinson who stated that Robinson had become more political in recent years. The family member referenced a recent incident in which Robinson came to dinner prior to Sept. 10.

“In that conversation with another family member, Robinson mentioned Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU. They talked about why they didn’t like him and the viewpoints that he had,” he added.

Suspect in Charlie Kirk killing is “not cooperating,” says Utah Governor
Now, the investigation into the killing of Charlie Kirk is underway. Authorities are doing their best to map Robinson’s movements and determine the motive. Sadly, on Sunday, while appearing on several morning talk shows, Fox said that Robinson is not cooperating.

“He [Robinson] has not confessed to authorities. He is not cooperating, but all the people around him are cooperating. And I think that’s very important,” Cox told ABC News’ This Week on Sunday.

Cox added that Robinson’s roommate, who claimed to also be his romantic partner, and his family are cooperating.

“This partner has been incredibly cooperative, had no idea that this was happening and is working with investigators right now,” Cox added, but declined to speculate whether the relationship was connected to the motive.

Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, Cox was asked whether the roommate’s gender identity was relevant to the investigation.

“That’s what we’re trying to figure out right now. … It’s easy to draw conclusions from that, and so we’ve got the shell casings, other forensic evidence that is coming in — and trying to piece all of those things together.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Charlie Kirk’s family. Rest in peace.
