White mom going viral after birth of Black baby, but husband is white

The arrival of baby Cash Jamal Buckman on February 17, 2024, to Rachel, a cashier at Celina 52 Truck Stop in Tennessee, and her fiancé Paul Buckman, quickly turned from celebration to viral controversy. While both parents are white, baby Cash appeared to be Black—prompting a wave of speculation online.

The truck stop’s initial Facebook post offering congratulations was soon flooded with comments questioning Cash’s paternity. In response, the post was edited to clarify: “Yes, Paul is the father. Rachel has African American DNA that can skip generations.” They also suggested the baby might have jaundice and urged commenters to “please be kind.”

Despite the explanation, jokes and doubts persisted. Many questioned whether a mix-up had occurred or if Paul was truly the father. Some expressed sympathy for Paul, calling the situation “creepy” and urging him to reconsider his relationship.

Rachel took to Facebook to share her ancestry results, claiming African American heritage to silence skeptics. However, commenters remained unconvinced, mocking the idea that 1% DNA could result in such a dramatic difference.

The story gained momentum, with TikTokers and meme-makers joining in. Eventually, Celina 52 Truck Stop announced polygraph and DNA tests. On March 24, they posted their “FINAL STATEMENT,” revealing DNA results from the Steve Wilkos Show confirmed Paul was not the biological father.

Rachel claimed the baby was conceived in 2021 with her ex and that dormant DNA activated after she had COVID. Despite the truth, Paul chose to stay and raise Cash, with the truck stop concluding: “Paul, you are NOT the father, but you ARE the dad.”
