The incident is heartbreaking. Keep reading to know more about the entire situation.

On May 10, 2025, at around 9.45 AM, the Nebraska State Patrol got a call to visit a home in Johnson Lake, Plum Creek Canyon. When they first arrived at the scene, they found all four people dead.

The residents were identified as Jeremy Koch, 42, and Bailey Koch, 41, and their children, Hudson, 18, and Asher, 16. The initial investigation revealed that Jeremy allegedly killed his sons and his wife before he took his own life.

Jeremy and Bailey had apparently set up a Facebook page called Anchoring Hope, which was meant to show others struggling with suicide that they were not alone. The two had been together for over 25 years. All four of them had been found with knife wounds at the scene.

Just a little while before the tragic incident, on May 9th, his wife posted on the Facebook page writing, “While today hasn’t been the greatest, since Jeremy had to fight suicidal thoughts off and on all day, he was able to get in to work from 7ish to 1:30 before he felt too exhausted to keep going. He headed home to rest, and I’m very proud of him for working as long as he did and checking a few things off his list.” The post went on to say the family appreciated the prayers and thoughts of people for them.

The statement read, “Cozad Schools was made aware of a tragic situation that will deeply affect our Cozad community. Our thoughts are with all those impacted during this incredibly difficult time.”

It went on to read, “Cozad Middle School will open at 12:30 today for grieving students and staff. The Cozad High School Graduation ceremony remains scheduled for 4:00 pm today. Seniors should report to the high school at 2:00 pm today. We appreciate the strength and support of our community as we come together in care, compassion and unity.”

They posted a follow-up, saying, “In light of yesterday’s tragedy, we understand that some students may be experiencing some difficulties. The high school commons will be open for students this afternoon from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. We will have school staff and counselors available for support. We will also have support available for students and staff when school resumes on Monday.”

An autopsy has been ordered for all four family members by the Dawson County Attorney, and the investigation is currently underway.

Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation and is being aided by Dawson County’s Sheriff’s Office, Eustis Fire & Rescue and Dawson County Attorney.

The police have released a statement saying, “The Nebraska State Patrol, the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Eustis Fire & Rescue, and the Dawson County Attorney extend condolences to all, across multiple communities, who will be affected by this incident.”
