The media attention surrounding Johnny Depp in the last couple years has not been the best. The legal battle made headlines the world over.
It stemmed from Depp filing a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard. It was over the op-ed Heard penned for the Washington Post in March 2019, writing about her experience as a victim of domestic violence.
While Depp won the defamation trial, the same jury also found him liable, citing comments that his lawyer, Adam Waldman, previously made. He referred to Heard’s claims as a ‘hoax.’
The same jury awarded Heard $2 million, and the actress has spent the last two years staying out of the spotlight.
While she filed an appeal in December 2022, she settled the case out of court, saying, “I have made no admission. This is not an act of concession. There are no restrictions or gags with respect to my voice moving forward.”
While she starred in 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, she did not participate in the film’s press tour.
Depp also stayed out of the public eye for a while before returning to the 2023 Cannes Film Festival where he was given a seven-minute standing ovation for his film, Jeanne Du Barry by audiences.
He was also rumored to be romantically linked with lawyer Joelle Rich. Rich represented him in his U.K. libel lawsuit that involved Heard. The relationship was however never confirmed.
A source close to Heard revealed that she is doing well. The source said, “She is focused on motherhood and her daughter. She is happy and feels comfortable in Spain. She is glad to be settled and is moving forward with her life. She doesn’t want to deal with any drama surrounding Johnny or the trial anymore.”
As for Depp, he is doing well too according to the same source. They said for him, he is “very happy to move on with his life and feels redemption. He feels grateful to his true fans and knows who they are. He is prioritizing his career and work.”
