What is a Rainbow kiss? The trend that has the internet gasping

Okay, so let’s talk about a trend that’s left the internet utterly shook — the rainbow kiss. Before you Google it (and regret it immediately), let’s break it down in the most PG way possible.

If you’re one of those who has already looked it up and are now clutching your soul for dear life, well, you’re not alone. People are literally saying they’re “scarred for life” after stumbling upon this term.

A trend that’s… Not for the faint of heart
The rainbow kiss sounds like it could be a fun, whimsical art project, but it’s far from it. Spoiler alert: it involves bodily fluids — period blood and semen, to be specific — and it’s usually done in the classic 69 position.

Now, for the real kicker: after a certain “moment,” one person, with semen in their mouth, and the other, with menstrual blood, share a kiss. The result? A colorful concoction that some might describe as… well, a ”rainbow.”

To put it lightly, it’s not what most people expect when they hear the word “rainbow.”

Internet reacts: “I should never have searched that…”
People who have had the misfortune of Googling this thing have been left with more than a little shock. One TikToker said, “I am shaking.” Another chimed in with, “I should never have searched that…” We get it. You can’t unsee it, folks.

One particularly brave soul vowed, “I’m never going to do that.”

And we don’t blame them.

Someone else summed it all up perfectly with: “Scarred for life.”

If you haven’t Googled it yet, let this be your warning. Proceed with caution.

What’s the Deal with “Snowballing,” Though?
The rainbow kiss is often confused with something else called “snowballing,” which involves some, let’s say, creative back-and-forth with semen. It’s a whole separate trend that, frankly, requires a different kind of bravery to research.

As Dr. Wendasha Jenkins Hall, a sex educator based in Atlanta, tells Cosmopolitan that the rainbow kiss is essentially a “level up” from the regular 69 position. So if you thought the regular 69 was pushing boundaries, just wait until you hear about the rainbow kiss.

“Rainbow kisses are not for the faint of heart,” Dr. Hall says. “This is a next-level sexual act.”

Others say people tend to attach way too much shame to periods and period sex — and that really doesn’t need to be the case,” says Neil Cannon, PhD, a certified sex therapist and supervisor based in Denver.

”When it comes to sex, all roads lead to shame,” he points out. ”When it comes to shame associated with menstruation, consider blood as just another bodily fluid, and it is nothing more than what we make of it.”

Is it safe? Spoiler: Not really
Now, the most important question: Is this thing safe?

The answer: it’s a bit of a nope. If you’re thinking about trying this, make sure you and your partner are both of age, fully consenting, and definitely STI-free.

Semen and menstrual blood are prime carriers of STIs, including HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis. If you or your partner have cuts, sores, or bleeding gums (yikes), the risk of infection goes way up.

Dr. Heather Irobunda, MD, warns that if you aren’t sure of your partner’s STD status, this is one trend you should skip.

In fact, whether you’re single or taken, Dr. Irobunda suggests getting tested regularly — every three to six months is a good rule of thumb.

Rainbow kisses have actually been around for a while, but they’re the perfect example of how wild sex slang can suddenly explode online.

They also show just how much the way we talk about sex, bodies, and kink has shifted — what used to be whispered about is now out in the open, trending on TikTok and other social media.

So, there you have it. The rainbow kiss: the trendy act that no one asked for, but here we are. If you’re considering trying it, make sure you know what you’re getting into (and maybe don’t Google it unless you’re ready for some seriously wild reactions).
