Richard Gere spotted enjoying his new low-key life in Spain

Richard Gere is perhaps one of the most popular actors in Hollywood and perhaps one of the most recognized faces in the world. He is known for his roles in movies like Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride.

However, the Hollywood legend has made it known in the last few years that the glitz and glamour of Tinsel Town is not what he lusts after. In fact, the actor has other plans for where he wants to live.

Keep reading to learn more about where Richard Gere was seen after he ditched Hollywood.

75-year-old Richard Gere was spotted out and about in Madrid, Spain. He and his family relocated to the sunny Spanish city, and it seems like Gere is adjusting to life abroad quite well.

Gere was dressed in a zipped-up black jacket and a gray hoodie with gray jogger pants. He was wearing a white baseball cap that covered his grey hair.

He was seen visiting a store called GAES, which specializes in hearing aids and audiology services. Gere made the move to Spain a year ago accompanied by his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their sons, 5-year-old Alexander and 4-year-old James.

The Hollywood icon sold off his $10.8 million mansion in Connecticut before the big move.

Richard Gere’s wife, Alejandra Silva is a Spain native and hence the move makes sense for the family. “We are happier than ever,” said in an interview last month.

“She, because she is at home and I because, if she is happy, I am happy,” Gere said about how his wife feels about the move.

Silva and Gere met in 2014 at a hotel in Positano, Italy. The two of them shared that they had also been motivated to move to Spain because of humanitarian reasons.

“The only reason why both Richard and I are here in Madrid is to be part of the board of the NGO Hogar Sí,” she said, adding, “We want to help this country to end homelessness. Our goal is that, within five years, no one sleeps on the street.”

November last year, Gere appeared on “The Tonight Show” and shared his excitement about the move.

“My wife is Spanish and she gave me about seven years here, and so we’re going to spend some years in Madrid,” he said. “Our kids are bilingual, so they’re going to flourish there.”

The actor is also father to 24-year-old Homer from a previous marriage to Carey Lowell. And Silva also has an older child, 11-year-old, Albert, from a prior marriage.

Gere appeared at Spain’s Goya Awards earlier this month where he received honors for an International Award and expressed how thankful he was for being in the “world of telling stories” and shared how it takes “thousands of people” to make a movie.

He also shared the “profound experience” that is watching a movie and experiencing cinema.

“Leaving your house, you can’t pause the film or leave it for tomorrow. Being with strangers in the dark watching a film … Anything that takes us away from that magic means that we are losing something that is in our basic DNA as human beings,” he shared his concerns about.

It seems Richard Gere is adjusting to his Spanish lifestyle really well. What do you think of the actor’s move to Europe? Let us know in the comments and share this with other fans of Gere to see what their reaction is.
