Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell celebrate giant milestone she says would have never happened if they married

When Goldie Hawn met Kurt Russell in 1966, while filming The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, they kind of liked each other but they never got really close and, certainly, could not imagine that they would go on and spend almost forty years together.

At the time, 21-year-old Hawn found 16-year-old Russell handsome, but too young for her, so she never made a move, and he didn’t make a move either.

So, after they were done filming the movie they went on with their lives, and they even married different people before they met again and became a couple.

Hawn married twice and got divorced after having two children with her ex-husband. Russell also got married and had a son, but he got divorced in 1983.

That year, they met again while filming Swing Shift, and that was when they realized that there was something about each other that was bringing them close.

The two actors’ first date was at the Playboy Club, where they went swing dancing, and the next thing they knew they arranged to meet at Hawn’s newly bought house.

The couple got to the house and only then did Hawn realize that she had forgotten the key, so they really had to break in.

“We eventually found our way upstairs, looking around at imaginary furniture and we were in the imaginary bedroom, now, and we are realistically having sex when the police walked in because we had to break into the place to get in,” Russell said in an interview with People.

The couple appeared on The Ellen Show, where they talked about their love story.

Hawn shared with Ellen that they fell in love with each other, but- most importantly- they fell in like. As they explained, it is nice to find someone to fall in love, but liking someone is so much more critical because it has so many layers and it is far deeper than love.

The couple, who has never exchanged vows, does not intend to get married at any point.

They are happy with how they have built their relationship and with how it is progressing through time, and they don’t feel like tying the knot.

As Hawn admits, their marriage might have ended years ago.

“I would have been long divorced if I’d been married,” Hawn has revealed at some point.

As for the secret to a long-lasting relationship? Russell explains that it is important to know when someone is worth relying and depending on.

“I think the secret is to know when to depend on somebody and when not to. It’s important that you are able to hold up your side of the house. I believe that one person can’t bear the whole burden because then their shoulders start getting heavy,” he once shared in an interview with Now To Love.

It is so sweet to see this lovely couple share their love story.

The laughs never showed up — and that’s exactly why it landed so hard. Jimmy Kimmel walked out on stage, skipped the punchlines, and spoke plainly about the uncertain future of public media, leaving the room unusually quiet. There was no sarcasm, no smirk. Just a steady voice talking about voices being pushed out, access to real information slipping away, and what it means when truth starts feeling out of reach. The shift was immediate — viewers could feel it. This wasn’t a bit. It wasn’t satire. It was Jimmy, speaking as himself — and it felt uncomfortably real. By the next morning, the clip was everywhere. Some praised him for saying what others won’t. Critics accused him of turning late-night TV into something it shouldn’t be. But one thing was clear: he hit on something people have been avoiding. And the simple, almost offhand example he shared at the very end turned the moment from serious… into impossible to ignore.
