Will she be at the inauguration? Michelle Obama makes a decision after skipping Jimmy Carter’s funeral

After missing President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, former First Lady Michelle Obama will not be present at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday.

“Former President Barack Obama is scheduled to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies,” the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed in a statement to the Associated Press.

Michelle Obama, the former first lady, will not be present at the forthcoming inauguration.

Michelle Obama extended her holiday vacation in Hawaii, the birthplace of President Barack Obama, and missed President Jimmy Carter’s funeral at the Washington National Cathedral on Thursday, citing a “scheduling conflict.”

Since her mother, Marian Robinson, passed away in May, the former first lady has kept a lower public profile. She spoke about the profound impact her grief had on her during the August Democratic National Convention.

She said to a crowded crowd at Chicago’s United Center, “I still feel her loss so profoundly—I wasn’t even sure I’d be steady enough to stand before you tonight.”

Prior to Election Day, Michelle Obama headlined several campaign events for Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, demonstrating her political activism despite her personal struggles.

Barak Obama, her spouse, will be there.
Despite his wife Michelle’s absence, which should come as a surprise considering the couple always attends these events together, Barack Obama is still anticipated to attend Monday’s swearing-in ceremony.

Following their unusually chatty appearances during President Jimmy Carter’s memorial service, Obama and Donald Trump caused a stir on the internet on Thursday.

Given their tense past, their interaction attracted attention.

Notably, Obama was spotted laughing at something Trump said at the Jimmy Carter funeral prior to the start of the show, which led to a lot of conjecture about their conversation.

Why is she not going?
Additionally, a person with knowledge of the Obamas’ inner circle told Page Six that it’s “deliberate.” She has always been genuine and authentic. According to the source, she has always been extremely selective about where and how she appears.

Reluctantly, she attended the election. She doesn’t need to unite around [Trump], even though they were united. She is not required to speak. On Page Six, it was stated, “Her absence speaks volumes.”
