I Refuse to Host Christmas After My MIL’s Suspicious Behavior on Thanksgiving

Holidays are a time for families to get together, spend quality time together, and make lasting memories.

But sometimes, even with the best intentions, things don’t go as planned.

A small thoughtless action can have a big impact, resulting in feelings of frustration and disappointment.

One reader recently shared how a Thanksgiving dinner turned into a dilemma when her mother-in-law’s actions left her questioning whether she wanted to host Christmas or any future family celebrations.

Here’s her story
My husband and I hosted our families for Thanksgiving. With my mother’s help, I prepared three turkeys and an entire Thanksgiving feast.

Meanwhile, my mother-in-law contributed only a tray of cookies.

We had a lovely evening with good food and great company. Later in the evening, as the guests left, I noticed the food on the table was gone.

I went to bed assuming my MIL handled the cleanup, especially since she hadn’t contributed any dishes.

The next morning, when I opened the fridge, I froze in horror at what I saw-Inside were just a bag of dressing and a few cookies, nothing else!

Thinking there had to be some mistake, I checked the fridge in the garage, but it was empty too.

I sat down, stunned, struggling to comprehend what had happened to all that food.

When my husband came into the kitchen, I asked if he had donated the leftovers to a charity.

He said no but mentioned that he had seen his mom carrying out several foil-wrapped containers.

I genuinely enjoyed preparing a meal for everyone to share, and I was more than happy for guests to take a fair share of leftovers.

But to empty the fridge entirely and take almost everything? That crosses the line and feels downright disrespectful.

Now, I don’t want to host Christmas because of my mother-in-law’s unexplainable behavior.

To make matters worse, my husband seems more upset with me for refusing to host than with his mom for what she did. I’m so disappointed and frustrated.
