‘The Five’ Breaks Records as the Most-Watched Cable Program in 2022

Fox News has once again dominated the ratings, leaving competitors MSNBC and CNN in their wake. In reality, 2022 was the third-highest-rated year in cable news history, according to total day viewers. Fox News has been the top cable network for the past seven years, both in primetime and total day ratings.

According to Nielsen/MRI Fusion data, Fox News attracts the most Democrats, Independents, and Republicans of any network. This appeal extends to the younger demographic as well, with Fox News getting the most viewers aged 25 to 54.

Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott could not be more proud of the network’s achievements in 2022. She attributed their success to their unique news and opinion programming, which appeals to a politically diverse cable news audience. And this is not just talk; Fox News had an astounding 53% share of the 25-54 demographic during overall daytime viewership.

Among the numerous successful shows on Fox News, ‘The Five’ stands out. This groundbreaking program created history by being the first non-primetime cable show to have the highest viewership for an entire year. Airing at 5 PM ET, in 2022, ‘The Five’ drew an incredible 3,432,000 viewers, outperforming all daytime and primetime programs on CNN and MSNBC. It aired at 5 PM ET. It also received positive feedback from the A25-54 group, with 465,000 viewers tuning in.
