The tragic story Kiena Dawes: Farewell letter, boyfriend, death

Kiena Dawes, a 23-year-old mother from Fleetwood, Lancashire, tragically took her own life on July 22, 2022.

Before her death, she dropped her 9-month-old daughter off at a friend’s house, then went to a nearby railway track, where she ended her life.

Farewell letter in her phone
Kiena Dawes body was found by British Transport Police.

Following her death, a heartbreaking farewell letter was discovered on Kiena’s phone, revealing the pain she had been enduring. In the letter, Kiena accused her ex-partner of destroying her life, claiming his abusive behavior was a significant factor in her decision to end it.

According to the 23-year-old, her ex-boyfriend ‘murdered slowly’.

”End. I fought hard, I fought long. I went through pain no one can imagine. I was murdered. [My ex] killed me. He destroyed all the strength I had left. I didn’t deserve this. I hope my life saves another by the police acting faster. Don’t let bullies live freely,” she wrote, according to Metro.

Message to her daughter
She also shared a final message to her daughter: ”I’m sorry I let you go… I’m so sorry I had to leave. The world turned its back on me. I was strong. I had dreams. I once had a future. It was taken from me.”

Kiena’s ex-partner was accused of controlling behavior and abuse, and prosecutors argue that this violent treatment contributed to her tragic death.

Her ex was under a restraining order following allegations of physical abuse against her in the summer of 2022. However, he violated the order by contacting Kiena and threatening her, according to prosecutors.

Made a Facebook post
In response, Kiena reportedly called the police, but her brother, Kynan, claims they did not take her concerns seriously. The following day, Kiena made a Facebook post, which included a photo of her bandaged head, a visible head injury, and images of bruises on her arm.

From the witness stand, Kynan shared, ”She was told by the police to take it down. She was trying to raise awareness about someone abusing a woman. She wanted to open up to the world, but the very people who are supposed to protect women and serve as their last line of defense told her to remove it.”

Just two weeks later, Kiena was found dead.

The charges
Kiena had been diagnosed with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD), commonly known as borderline personality disorder. This condition can cause extreme emotional shifts, often making it difficult for individuals to manage their feelings in a healthy way.

The prosecution claims that Kiena’s ex-partner exploited her vulnerabilities, leading to the breakdown of her mental and emotional well-being. He is facing charges of ABH (Actual Bodily Harm), coercive control, and manslaughter. He denies all allegations. The trial is ongoing.
